Bitchat uses Bluetooth mesh networking to enable peer-to-peer messaging, making it perfect for use during internet outages or in remote locations. The app requires no sign-up, email, or phone number, ensuring full anonymity. Messages are end-to-end encrypted, automatically delete, and are relayed through nearby devices without the need for central servers—allowing completely offline communication.

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has introduced a new messaging app called Bitchat that works without an internet connection. Using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networking, Bitchat enables encrypted, peer-to-peer communication without the need for Wi-Fi, mobile data, or centralized servers. Currently in beta through Apple’s TestFlight, the app has already reached its 10,000-user testing limit and is currently available for iPhone users, with plans for broader support and new features coming soon. Unlike platforms like WhatsApp or Telegram, Bitchat is fully decentralized—no sign-up, email, or phone number is required. Messages are end-to-end encrypted, stored only on user devices, and automatically deleted after a short period, ensuring privacy and anonymity.

How Bitchat Operates

Bitchat operates using Bluetooth Mesh Networking, forming localized clusters of nearby devices (within roughly 30 meters). As users move, their phones act as relays, passing messages across greater distances without relying on traditional network infrastructure. The app works entirely offline—without any internet, Wi-Fi, or mobile data—making it especially valuable in remote locations, during emergencies, or amid internet shutdowns.

A standout feature of Bitchat is its complete decentralization: it requires no central servers or account registration, allowing users to remain fully anonymous

Bitchat Launch and Availability

Jack Dorsey has launched Bitchat’s whitepaper and public beta exclusively via Apple’s TestFlight, quickly reaching the 10,000-user testing limit [1]. The current beta version focuses on improving battery efficiency and reliability. In the final release, the app is expected to include Wi-Fi support to boost bandwidth and allow sharing of richer content like images and videos.

Future updates may also bring Bitchat to additional platforms beyond iOS.
