Figure 1 shows WhatsApp may soon allow users to translate messages directly in chat. The transcribe feature provides a word-by-word text of the audio chat, offering a practical solution for quickly capturing conversations without the need for manual transcription. WhatsApp plans to roll out this functionality in a future update.

WhatsApp Voice Note Transcribing Feature: What We Know

WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature in the Android version 2.24.7.8 beta. This upcoming update will introduce a language selection section for voice transcripts. Users will have options such as English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi, with the possibility of additional languages being included later on. Once a language is chosen, users will download a package that enables the transcription process.[1]

For example, if you've shared directions to your home in a note, WhatsApp will assist in converting those details into text. In an upcoming update, a new "Transcript Language" section will allow users to select from multiple languages, including Hindi, for transcription purposes.[2]

A key aspect of this feature is that WhatsApp will download a package to enable chat transcription directly on the device, ensuring it does not need to be processed on external servers. This approach aims to maintain end-to-end encryption security for chats, voice notes, and transcriptions.
