Super Mario Sunshine Returns on Switch 2
Super Mario Sunshine will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 in August through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. Players will be able to revisit Isle Delfino using the Nintendo GameCube Classics app, adding another classic title to the growing retro library.
Nintendo Switch Online offers features such as cloud saves, online play, exclusive icons, Nintendo Music, and access to older console games. The higher-tier Expansion Pack adds GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Virtual Boy, and Sega Genesis titles, along with select DLC and Switch 2 upgrade content, with new classic games continuing to expand the collection.

The Nintendo GameCube Classics app launched with the Switch 2 in July after being revealed during an April Nintendo Direct. Although the service started with only a small selection of games, Nintendo indicated that more titles would be added over time. Super Mario Sunshine was among the classic games shown in the original announcement, confirming its planned arrival on the platform.
After more than a year of anticipation, Super Mario Sunshine is finally coming to the Nintendo GameCube Classics app on Switch 2 on August 13, 2026. The release gives players another chance to experience the classic adventure, especially those who missed the limited-time Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection.
The Switch 2 version will be a faithful GameCube emulation rather than a visual remake, keeping the original gameplay and graphics while adapting it for modern displays [1]. Despite being released in 2002, the game’s distinctive art style continues to hold up well, allowing a new generation of players to enjoy Mario’s Isle Delfino adventure.
