Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) play a crucial role in transmitting data across networks. One of the primary applications of WSNs is monitoring environmental and physical conditions, including landslides, temperature variations, and tsunamis. Additionally, WSNs are widely used in military surveillance for war-field applications. A key challenge in WSNs is the depletion of battery power due to continuous data transmission, redundant data forwarding, and network congestion. Various protocols have been developed to address this issue; however, inefficiencies persist when transmitting data to the sink node. To overcome these challenges, we propose a token-based scheme that optimizes data transmission to the sink node. This approach ensures an efficient path selection for data forwarding, minimizes redundant data transmission, and enhances energy efficiency in WSNs. Simulation studies of the proposed approach have been conducted using a network simulation environment, evaluating its performance under various network conditions. The results have been systematically compared against the Token-based MAC protocol, AS-MAC protocol. Performance metrics such as data packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, and network throughput were analyzed. The experimental findings derived from the simulation validate that the proposed approach achieves a significantly higher data packet delivery ratio, demonstrating its efficiency in optimizing network communication and resource utilization.
