Perplexity AI Users Report Faster Usage Limits as Company Cites Promo Code Abuse
Perplexity AI says some accounts connected to promotional codes are experiencing different advanced AI usage restrictions due to concerns about fraud and abuse. Several users reported reaching their weekly limits after only a small number of queries and file uploads.
The company stated that standard AI models are not affected by the issue and advised impacted users to contact customer support for assistance.

Users of Perplexity AI have reported unexpected disruptions after receiving “weekly usage limit exceeded” warnings for advanced AI models despite relatively light activity. Many subscribers said premium features, including advanced model access and file uploads, were becoming restricted after only a few queries. Figure 1 shows Perplexity AI Limits Running Out Faster.
The complaints quickly spread across social media, with users questioning whether the platform had recently changed its usage policies or reduced limits for paid accounts.
Perplexity AI has acknowledged that some users are experiencing different usage restrictions, especially on accounts tied to promotional code subscriptions. In a statement to Android Authority, the company said it recently strengthened enforcement measures to combat fraud, abuse, and the resale of promotional access codes through unofficial third-party sellers. According to Perplexity, some affected users may have unknowingly purchased invalid or unauthorized codes.
The company said it is working to provide clearer information about usage limits for impacted accounts while continuing efforts to reduce abuse and unauthorized reselling. Perplexity also noted that users who believe their accounts were mistakenly restricted can contact customer support for help.
Users on online forums reported that Perplexity AI’s advanced models, particularly reasoning-focused options, appear to be the most heavily affected by the new restrictions. Many subscribers said they were reaching weekly query limits after only a small number of requests each day, while others claimed file upload limits and overall token allowances had become more restrictive than before.
According to reports, the changes do not affect the platform’s standard AI models [1]. Users who hit the new caps are reportedly encouraged to upgrade to Perplexity’s higher-tier Max subscription plan for expanded access.
Perplexity has not officially updated its pricing or usage documentation to reflect broader changes to limits, and the company has not confirmed whether restrictions vary by region. However, some users have speculated that accounts in certain countries may face stricter controls compared to users in the United States.
