“We aim to create a seamless blend of the physical and digital worlds, making them indistinguishable,” said Johannes Peeters, co-founder and CEO of VoxelSensors. “The rise of Extended Reality (XR) across industries like gaming, entertainment, healthcare, and manufacturing presents vast opportunities. With our Switching Pixels® Active Event Sensor technology, we are poised to revolutionize user experiences and play a major role in the growth of XR. We are honored by the trust our investors have shown in us to scale the business and drive market penetration.”
Founded by Johannes Peeters and Ward van der Tempel, VoxelSensors is leading the charge in 3D perception, offering state-of-the-art sensors that enable the seamless integration of physical and digital environments. XR device manufacturers often face challenges in incorporating 3D perception technology that operates with minimal power consumption and ultra-low latency. These attributes are crucial for creating truly immersive experiences.
The company’s patented Switching Pixels Active Event Sensor (SPAES) technology is a breakthrough in 3D perception, offering low latency and ultra-low power consumption by capturing a Voxel with fewer than 10 photons. It is claimed to be the world’s first system to combine less than 10 milliwatts of power consumption with under 5 milliseconds of latency.
“We’re challenging the status quo in 3D perception with our Switching Pixels Active Event Sensing (SPAES) technology,” added Ward van der Tempel, co-founder and CTO of VoxelSensors. “This innovation unlocks new possibilities in XR by addressing key challenges like precise segmentation, spatial mapping, and natural interaction. Beyond XR, this technology has exciting applications in other sectors as well.”
Marc Lambrechts, Investment Director at Capricorn Partners, expressed enthusiasm about the investment: “We’re excited to partner with VoxelSensors through the Capricorn Digital Growth Fund. The team’s broad experience, the adaptability of their 3D perception solutions, and their solid intellectual property position them for success. The team has demonstrated a proven track record of building scalable business models within the European semiconductor value chain. We also value the support from Innoviris in the Brussels region.”
VoxelSensors, a Belgium-based startup, is at the forefront of 3D perception technology. Their mission is to help companies in the Extended Reality (XR) space blend the physical and virtual worlds seamlessly. By providing cutting-edge sensor technology, they aim to revolutionize how XR applications like gaming, healthcare, education, and entertainment interact with the real world.
The Need for Advanced 3D Perception in XR
One of the biggest challenges facing XR companies is the integration of 3D perception systems that require minimal power consumption and ultra-low latency. These attributes are essential for creating immersive experiences where digital objects behave naturally in the real world. VoxelSensors aims to solve this issue by offering technology that meets these demands, paving the way for more immersive and realistic XR experiences.
VoxelSensors’ Groundbreaking Technology
VoxelSensors' flagship technology is their patented Switching Pixels Active Event Sensor (SPAES), a novel 3D perception system that consumes extremely low power while maintaining low latency. The sensor is able to capture a Voxel with fewer than 10 photons, allowing it to operate with less than 10 milliwatts of power and under 5 milliseconds of latency, making it a game-changer for XR companies that require fast, efficient technology.
Expanding Global Reach and Capabilities
With €5 million in recent funding, VoxelSensors is expanding its operations. The company plans to use the investment to further enhance its technology, grow its team, and extend its business reach, particularly in the US and Asia. By strengthening these international business engagements, VoxelSensors aims to increase its global market penetration and accelerate the adoption of its technology in the XR space.
Future Impact and Industry Potential
VoxelSensors envisions its technology driving not only advancements in XR but also opening up new possibilities across industries. The precision and efficiency of their sensors could have applications beyond XR, including in fields like robotics, manufacturing, and healthcare. With continued innovation and investment, VoxelSensors aims to shape the future of 3D perception and its integration into digital and physical worlds.
