YouTube is developing new tools aimed at protecting artists and creators from unauthorized use of their likenesses. The company announced on Thursday that it is working on technology to detect AI-generated content featuring a person's face or singing voice. [1] A pilot program for the voice detection tool is expected to launch by early next year.

The face-detection tool, still in development, will allow individuals across various industries to “detect and manage” AI-generated content using their likeness. [2] YouTube aims to give creators, actors, musicians, and athletes the ability to identify and take action on videos that feature deepfake versions of themselves. However, a release date for the face detection tool has not yet been disclosed. Figure 1 shows YouTube.

YouTube is also working on "synthetic-singing identification" technology, which will be integrated into Content ID, the platform’s automated intellectual property protection system. This tool will enable partners to detect and manage content that features AI-generated versions of their singing voices.

Amjad Hanif, YouTube’s vice president of creator products, emphasized in a blog post, "As AI evolves, we believe it should enhance human creativity, not replace it. We are committed to collaborating with our partners to ensure that future innovations amplify their voices, and we will continue to develop safeguards to address concerns and achieve our shared goals."
