Previously, replying to an Instagram Story would send a private message visible only to the person who posted it. Now, Instagram allows you to leave comments directly on Stories. [1] However, only followers who you are following back can comment on your Stories.

Instagram is enhancing user interaction with its new feature that lets users leave comments directly on Stories. This update aims to make engaging with Stories more seamless and interactive than ever before. Figure 1 shows "Instagram’s New Feature: Comment on Stories"

Previously, responding to an Instagram Story would send a private message visible only to the Story’s poster. With this update, Instagram introduces a more public way to interact by allowing comments on Stories.

However, commenting on Stories will be limited to followers you are following back, adding a layer of privacy and control. [2] This ensures that only close connections can engage with your Stories in this way.

The comments, like the Stories themselves, are temporary and will vanish after 24 hours. Users also have the option to enable or disable comments for each Story they share, providing more control over their content, according to The Verge.
