WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new Voice Mode feature for Meta AI. According to WABetaInfo, this feature was recently discovered in the beta version 2.24.18.18 for Android. Once launched, Voice Mode will offer up to ten different voices.

WhatsApp, one of the most popular messaging platforms, continually introduces new features to stay ahead. Reports indicate that the Meta-owned platform is developing a new Voice Mode feature for its in-app AI chatbot, Meta AI.Figure 1 shows WhatsApp’s Meta AI.

With this upcoming feature, users will be able to have two-way voice conversations with the chatbot, essentially allowing you to chat with AI on WhatsApp. According to WABetaInfo, the Voice Mode feature was recently seen in the beta version 2.24.18.18 for Android.

It’s unclear when WhatsApp will officially launch the Voice Mode feature, as the company has been keeping details under wraps. According to media reports, the feature is still in development and not yet visible in the current beta version of the app. If you’re part of the Google Beta Programme, you won’t have access to it at this time.

Screenshots shared by WABetaInfo show the interface for the Voice Mode feature. To activate it, you need to click and long-press the Meta AI button located above the New Chat icon. Additionally, you can access a hands-free mode by tapping the waveform icon next to the text field in the Meta AI chat.

The screenshots also reveal a bottom sheet displaying the Meta AI Voice Mode interface. It features a circular aura icon to indicate the active voice mode, along with options for speaker, mute, and disconnecting from the voice mode.

When the feature launches, Voice Mode will offer up to ten different voices, providing variations in accents, tonalities, and possibly genders. However, it’s still unclear whether the feature will include support for different languages.
