The ALE Private 5G package integrates technology from various ALE platforms, including ruggedized Omni Switch hardware, Omni Switch LAN, and Omni Access Stellar WLAN software for both local and wide-area connectivity. The entire solution can be managed via ALE’s Omni Vista management suite. Figure 1 shows Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Targets IoT and Industrial Sectors with Private 5G Solution.

Celona, a private wireless specialist, provides essential 5G components such as a software-defined 4G/5G core, secure SIM/eSIM authentication, device management tools, wireless access points, and a cloud-based deployment, monitoring, and operation service.

The package will also support Celona’s Micro Slicing and Aerloc technologies. Micro Slicing ensures application-specific Quality of Service (QoS) and guaranteed service level agreements (SLAs) for the wireless network, while Aerloc delivers reliable service and enforces policies for business-critical applications.

The ALE Private 5G service is designed for large enterprise customers but is specifically aimed at complex industrial environments like manufacturing, refineries, logistics warehouses, and other challenging-to-network spaces. According to ALE, the solution provides extensive wireless coverage, secure high-speed mobility, and supports real-time, mission-critical industrial applications.

This package is well-suited for IoT devices and applications that require ultra-low latency and deterministic performance, such as autonomous guided vehicles, robotics, HD video analytics, and augmented/virtual reality.

A recent Gartner Magic Quadrant for 4G and 5G private mobile network services recognized Celona as a specialist in private mobile networks, offering 5G LAN technology that includes radios, core, edge, management, orchestration capabilities, and neutral host options.

Gartner also noted that Celona provides RF design, network deployment, and operational support. The solution can be implemented as a self-managed network infrastructure-as-a-service or as a managed service delivered primarily through partnerships with resellers like Verizon, NTT Data, and others.

Gartner highlighted the advantages of private mobile networks in enterprise settings, such as factories, warehouses, ports, airports, and mines, including:

  • Superior reliability and scalability compared to other wireless solutions
  • Enhanced data privacy and better surface attack management
  • Isolation from public cellular networks and stronger authentication than Wi-Fi
  • Consolidation of various connectivity technologies into a single service
  • Enhanced data collection, analysis, and decision-making capabilities for connected solutions and industrial applications

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) has partnered with Celona to offer a turnkey private 5G solution designed to address the specific needs of industrial and IoT networks. This solution provides large-scale wireless coverage and secure, high-speed connectivity that supports mission-critical applications in complex environments like manufacturing plants, refineries, and logistics warehouses. The package combines technology from ALE's platforms and Celona's private wireless expertise, making it a comprehensive offering for enterprises with demanding network requirements.

Core Technology Components

The ALE Private 5G solution integrates several key technologies to provide a robust networking experience. ALE contributes ruggedized hardware, such as its Omni Switch devices, which offer reliable switching capabilities for local and wide-area connectivity. Additionally, ALE’s Omni Access Stellar WLAN software supports both LAN and wireless networking needs. This integration allows ALE’s customers to manage their network infrastructure through its Omni Vista management package, which offers centralized control and visibility for a seamless operation.

Celona’s Role and 5G Expertise

Celona, a specialist in private wireless networks, complements ALE's hardware and software by providing essential 5G components. Celona’s offering includes a software-defined 4G/5G core, secure SIM/eSIM authentication, device management tools, and wireless access points, all of which are crucial for building a reliable and secure private network. Additionally, Celona’s cloud-based deployment, monitoring, and operation service ensures that the entire system can be managed effectively and efficiently.

Key Technologies: Micro Slicing and Aerloc

The ALE Private 5G package also supports Celona’s advanced technologies—Micro Slicing and Aerloc. Micro Slicing allows for granular control over application traffic, ensuring that different services on the network receive the required Quality of Service (QoS) and meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Aerloc, on the other hand, guarantees that business-critical applications receive reliable service and that policies are enforced throughout the network. These technologies are designed to optimize network performance and ensure that industrial and IoT applications run smoothly.

Benefits for Industrial and IoT Networks

ALE’s Private 5G solution is designed with the unique needs of industrial and IoT environments in mind. It offers ultra-low latency and deterministic performance, which is essential for applications such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, HD video analytics, and augmented reality. With this solution, industries can achieve better reliability, scalability, and data privacy than with traditional wireless technologies like Wi-Fi. It also consolidates various connectivity options into a single service, reducing complexity and enhancing operational efficiency in critical environments like factories, airports, and warehouses.
