Government Alert: Critical Vulnerability in ChromeOS - Protect Yourself
This vulnerability poses a significant risk of data theft affecting many users. Exploiting these flaws allows attackers to execute unauthorized code on targeted systems. To safeguard against these vulnerabilities, users should promptly update their Google Chrome version.
If you use Google Chrome, pay close attention to this alert. CERT-In, India's cybersecurity agency, has identified vulnerabilities in Google Chrome OS and issued an urgent update. These vulnerabilities pose serious security risks and potential fraud threats, including unauthorized code execution and data breaches.

Given that most of us rely on Google Chrome, ignoring this issue could result in widespread data theft. CERT-In has issued a high-severity warning due to the critical nature of these vulnerabilities, which enable attackers to execute arbitrary code on targeted systems. Figure 1 shows ChromeOS.
What is the extent of its impact?
The advisory issued on July 1 states that these vulnerabilities specifically impact Chrome OS version 120.0.6099.315 (Platform Version: 15662.112). Exploiting these bugs, attackers can trick users into visiting malicious websites designed to access their personal data. [1] This could result in compromised system integrity, potential financial losses, and the loss of personal data.
How can you protect yourself from it?
To safeguard against these vulnerabilities, users should ensure their Google Chrome version is updated to the latest release, version 120.0.6099.315. This update addresses issues such as heap buffer overflow in WebRTC and a use-after-free problem in the Media Session, as addressed by Google.
How can you upgrade your Chrome version?
If you are currently using the Chrome version mentioned above, it's crucial to update it promptly, as previously mentioned. [2] Updating is straightforward and won't take much time.
Here's how you can update your Chrome version. Simply follow these steps:
Step 1: Launch Chrome.
Step 2: Click on the three dots and select “More”.
Step 3: Choose “Help” and then “About Google Chrome”.
Step 4: If an update is available, click on “Update Google Chrome”.
Following these steps helps users protect their devices from the identified security risks and maintain a secure computing environment.
