The Internet's Highest-Earning Content Creators
The creator economy continues to redefine digital success, with online personalities building businesses that rival traditional media companies. According to the latest Forbes Top Creators list, YouTube superstar MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson) has once again emerged as the world's highest-earning content creator.
Between March 2025 and March 2026, Donaldson generated an estimated $300 million in gross earnings, placing him well ahead of every other creator on the list. His success extends far beyond YouTube, where his large-scale challenge videos and philanthropic content attract hundreds of millions of viewers. His business portfolio now includes the hit streaming series Beast Games, food ventures, analytics software, merchandise licensing, and strategic technology investments, demonstrating how creators are evolving into full-scale entrepreneurs.
Beyond Social Media Revenue
Today's top creators earn far more than advertising revenue and sponsored posts. While video platforms such as YouTube remain a major source of income, many influencers have expanded into merchandise, publishing, streaming, licensing, and technology businesses. Figure 1 shows content creators.
Comedy duo Rhett & Link have transformed their YouTube success into live entertainment, streaming partnerships, merchandise, and bestselling books. Likewise, Markiplier (Mark Edward Fischbach) has expanded beyond gaming videos into apparel, merchandising, podcasts, television collaborations, and independent filmmaking, illustrating how digital creators are diversifying their careers.
Education and Business Content Gain Momentum
Educational content is also becoming one of the fastest-growing segments of the creator economy. Codie Sanchez has built a massive following by teaching entrepreneurship, small business ownership, and passive-income strategies through videos, podcasts, newsletters, and bestselling books.
Similarly, entrepreneur Steven Bartlett has turned his popular podcast, The Diary of a CEO, into a global media brand. Alongside interviewing influential business leaders and celebrities, Bartlett continues to launch companies, invest in startups, publish books, and appear as an investor on television, proving that creators can become influential business leaders in their own right.
Storytelling Continues to Attract Massive Audiences
Another standout on the Forbes rankings is Dhar Mann, whose short inspirational dramas have attracted billions of views across YouTube and social media. His professionally produced videos combine entertainment with life lessons, creating a unique format that resonates with audiences worldwide.
What began as motivational storytelling has grown into a large-scale production company employing hundreds of crew members and collaborating with thousands of actors each year. His success highlights how high-quality storytelling remains one of the strongest drivers of audience engagement.
The Business of Being a Creator
The latest Forbes rankings reflect a broader shift in the digital economy [1]. Content creators are no longer relying solely on platform advertising or sponsorships. Instead, they are building diversified business ecosystems that include products, media companies, software, investments, licensing, publishing, and entertainment.
As audiences continue spending more time on digital platforms, successful creators are transforming personal brands into global enterprises. The modern creator is no longer just an influencer—they are entrepreneurs, media executives, investors, and innovators shaping the future of online business.
