Rigetti and C-DAC Partner to Co-Develop Hybrid Quantum Systems

Rigetti Computing, Inc. and India’s Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) signed an MoU on September 2, 2025, to co-develop hybrid quantum-classical systems. The partnership will focus on superconducting hardware, cryogenic electronics, and advanced processor fabrication, supporting C-DAC’s ChipIN initiative to boost India’s semiconductor design ecosystem.

Rigetti, which has demonstrated a 100-plus-qubit chiplet platform and its 9-qubit Novera QPU, plans to scale its Cepheus-1-36Q processor to 36 qubits by the end of 2025. The collaboration aims to design and commercialize hybrid quantum systems leveraging Rigetti’s superconducting qubit technology, which operates over 1,000 times faster than ion-trap or atomic approaches. Rigetti has established superconducting qubits as the industry’s fastest modality, running over 1,000 times quicker than ion-trap or neutral-atom systems. Its proprietary multi-chip architecture, built with standard semiconductor manufacturing methods, powers the Cepheus-1-36Q—the largest demonstrated multi-chip quantum computer as of July 2025, featuring 36 qubits across multiple chiplets. The platform has already been scaled to a 100-plus-qubit configuration, which Rigetti plans to commercialize by year-end 2025. The company also launched the 9-qubit Novera QPU in 2023 and has provided cloud-based quantum services since 2017.

C-DAC’s portfolio spans quantum-accelerated applications in logistics, drug discovery, and materials science. The collaboration will build on C-DAC’s expertise in quantum-aware hardware design to develop high-performance, energy-efficient quantum processors that can seamlessly integrate with existing data center infrastructure.

Rigetti and C-DAC will roll out training programs, workshops, and apprenticeships to upskill engineers and scientists in quantum hardware, cryogenic electronics, and hybrid quantum-classical software. The initiative will also deliver application prototypes in areas like materials science, cryptography, and optimization, showcasing practical benefits for industry and academia [1]. With its 9-qubit Novera QPU launched in 2023 and cloud-based quantum services available since 2017, Rigetti is positioned as a leader in both on-premises and remote quantum computing. C-DAC Director Dr. S. D. Sudarsan noted that the partnership will accelerate the development of quantum-aware solutions to strengthen India’s research ecosystem.
