Cracker Barrel acknowledged Monday that it “could have done a better job” after its new logo drew backlash from fans. In a statement, the company said, “If the last few days have shown us anything, it’s how deeply people care about Cracker Barrel. We’re truly grateful for your heartfelt voices. You’ve also shown us that we could have done a better job sharing who we are and who we’ll always be.”

The controversy began when Cracker Barrel unveiled a simplified logo that removed the iconic image of an older man in overalls leaning on a barrel, as well as the words “Old Country Store.” The redesign is part of a broader rebranding effort, which includes lighter paint and modern furniture in its restaurants. The change sparked criticism on social media, including from Donald Trump Jr., with some threatening to boycott the chain unless the logo was reverted. Rival chain Steak n’ Shake weighed in, calling the new design “a cheap effort to gain the approval of trend seekers.”

On Monday, Lebanon, Tennessee–based Cracker Barrel reassured customers that many iconic elements won’t change, including the rocking chairs on its front porches and the vintage Americana and antiques throughout its restaurants.

The company also confirmed it will continue to honor Uncle Herschel—the older man from the previous logo, who represents the founder’s uncle—on its menu and in merchandise sold in stores.

At the same time, Cracker Barrel emphasized its goal of keeping the brand fresh and appealing to a new generation of customers.

“That means engaging on new platforms and in new ways, while keeping our heritage at the heart,” the company said.
