“South Africa has always been a key hub for IT transformation and serves as the African headquarters for many major Indian companies. Leading firms like Tata Communication Services and Mahindra have established their African bases here. This was a major factor in our decision to do the same,” said Vishal Narayan Sinha, Business Head - Africa at Hexaware, during the launch of their new office in Sandton, Johannesburg’s economic center. Sinha also mentioned that until now, Hexaware’s focus had primarily been on the North American market.

“We have successfully captured the North American market and performed well there. Over the past five years, we began a strategic expansion, with 2025 earmarked as the year to officially launch our Africa business, which we are doing today,” Sinha explained. “Previously, we supported South African clients like Virgin Active, Santam, and Standard Bank from our UK office. Now, we’ve made a strategic decision to establish a direct presence in this market.”

Sinha added that Hexaware already has a significant business footprint in Mauritius and plans to expand further into Nigeria in West Africa and Kenya in East Africa, but South Africa will remain the central base for these operations.

“We are also actively hiring local talent to grow our business. In terms of employment and training, we aim to upskill people in AI to accelerate growth and transformation in this fast-evolving field [1]. Currently, around 99% of our workforce of about 36,000 employees are AI-trained, including 10,000 at Level 1 certification, many of whom are in leadership roles,” Sinha noted.

Amrinder Singh, President & Head - EMEA & APAC at Hexaware, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to bringing AI solutions to the African continent. The new Johannesburg office will function as a regional hub, enhancing Hexaware’s capability to support clients across Africa with its comprehensive range of services. Consul General of India in Johannesburg, Mahesh Kumar, also attended the launch event.

“Hexaware’s entry into South Africa strongly reflects the growing technological and economic partnership between India and Africa. We are confident this move will foster greater innovation, create employment opportunities, promote knowledge exchange, and strengthen bilateral relations based on shared growth and mutual respect,” Kumar said.

Hexaware is dedicated to developing local talent and promoting inclusive, sustainable growth. The company plans to collaborate with South African universities, technical institutes, and innovation centers to build a robust pipeline of skilled professionals in high-demand fields such as cloud computing, AI, and cybersecurity, stated Mehraz Parakh, Vice President & Head - Middle East & Africa at Hexaware.
