Camera Motion Sensor System

Motion sensor cameras are just what they sound like — devices with sensors that detect movement. When movement is detected, the camera sends a notification to your phone, starts recording video, or both.

Some cameras are better for specific situations than others. Some are only meant to be used indoors, while others are outdoor security cameras. [1]

Figure 1. The Camera Motion Sensor System

Figure 1 shows This camera motion sensor system can detect motion (even the slightest ones) and trigger an alarm. It uses a motion detector algorithm for detecting movements. The camera continually monitors the surrounding environment, records images of any movements in real-time, and sets triggers for unusual activities in the vicinity.

To activate the system, the user must set a security code. Once it gets activated, it immediately starts monitoring the surroundings. If the alarm sets off on detecting any movement, the user must deactivate the alarm by re-entering the security code. [2]

Camera Motion Sensor Works:

The technical name for the sensor at the heart of most smart cameras is a PIR – or Passive Infrared ¬– sensor. It detects infrared energy given off by humans and animals. When the sensor notices a sudden increase in this energy, it turns a smart camera on and it starts recording. Whether you have an indoor or outdoor motion sensor camera for your home, the sensor works the same way. You can even set some cameras – like Hive’s – to only detect people (and not pets), because they can ignore heat given off by anything below is a certain weight.[4]

Night Vision of Sensor:

A lot of smart cameras work just as well at night as they do during the day. Cameras with night vision emit infrared light (which is invisible to the naked eye) to ‘see in the dark’. This means they can live stream HD footage even when it’s pitch black outside – and you still get a perfectly crisp picture of what’s going on at home. [4]

Advantages:

  • The system is easy to install and is fully authorized.
  • It can be used as home protection and security purposes for users.
  • It is not an electronic based system so one can easily make use of laptops to install this system.
  • It is cost-effective.
  • It also saves the motions occurred so that they can be used as an evidence.
  • It maximizes accuracy and reduces storage space usage.

Disadvantages:

  • It requires a lot of memory.
  • The alarm has to be manually turned off by entering security code. [3]
