Wizkids Offers Full Refunds Over Disappointing Baldur’s Gate 3 Minis
WizKids is responding to customer complaints about the quality of its Baldur’s Gate 3 pre-painted miniatures by offering refunds. The $50 D&D Icons of the Realms: Baldur’s Gate 3 set, featuring six origin characters plus Withers, faced criticism for sloppy and imprecise paint jobs, as shown in photos shared by buyers.

WizKids addressed the issue in a statement, expressing their commitment to creating products that enhance gameplay but admitting they “missed the mark” with this miniature set. Customers who bought the set directly from WizKids can request refunds via customer service email, while those who purchased from retailers should seek refunds at the point of sale. Additionally, WizKids offers a product replacement option on their website for those wanting to give the miniatures another try. Figure 1 shows Baldur’s Gate 3.
Images of the melted-faced miniatures have been circulating online since their release. A senior cinematic artist from Larian Studios, who worked on Baldur’s Gate 3, shared on X the disappointing gap between expectations and reality. For some fans, the worst issue wasn’t just the distorted faces—their Shadowheart miniature was missing a head entirely!
The set’s quality problems are a letdown for Baldur’s Gate 3 fans expecting collectible-grade figures of their favorite characters. While seven pre-painted minis for $50 isn’t pricey by hobby standards, even those with low expectations were surprised by the poor craftsmanship. However, these flawed minis might become collectibles themselves—misprints and errors have sometimes gained value in other hobbies. With refunds and replacements in progress, the original batch could ironically turn into a sought-after oddity for collectors.
