The Sinking City Remastered Launches with Early 4K/8K Performance Benchmarks

Frogwares has recently launched The Sinking City Remastered for PC. This updated version, now running on Unreal Engine 5, is available for free to all current owners of the original game. Early benchmarks showcasing performance in 4K and 8K resolutions have also been released.

Frogware states that the game’s lighting has been completely redone in Unreal Engine 5. The levels have been upgraded with more detailed environments and additional objects. The remaster also features 4K textures and improved reflections through Ray Tracing. Additionally, it supports NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3.0, and TSR for enhanced performance and visuals.

For our initial benchmarks, we tested the game on a system with an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor, 32GB of DDR5 RAM running at 6000MHz, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founder's Edition GPU. The setup was running Windows 10 64-bit with the NVIDIA GeForce 576.40 WHQL drivers installed. Figure 1 shows The Sinking City Remastered.

At native 8K resolution on Ultra settings with ray-traced reflections, the game ran at around 16 FPS. Enabling DLSS Performance Mode boosted frame rates to between 36 and 42 FPS. However, DLSS 3 Frame Generation doesn’t seem to be functioning properly — as shown in the video, the performance remains unchanged whether DLSS 3 Frame Gen is enabled or not.

At native 4K resolution on Ultra settings with ray-traced reflections, the game averaged around 45 FPS. Switching to DLSS 3 Quality Mode allowed for a smooth and steady 60 FPS experience. Unfortunately, DLSS 3 Frame Generation isn’t working yet—at least for the time being—which could have further improved performance.

I should also mention that the game still experiences some traversal stutters, which you can see on the frametime graph in the video. This issue was present in the original game as well. While these stutters aren’t as severe as those found in Oblivion Remastered, they do occur occasionally.

We’ll be testing additional AMD and NVIDIA GPUs soon, so stay tuned for our full PC Performance Analysis, which is expected to be published by the end of this week.
