I really enjoyed playing Dead Island 2 on PC in 2023, so I’m excited to share that it’s now free to own on the Epic Games Store. PC gamers can claim their free copy on its EGS page until May 22nd. If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend grabbing it.

Dead Island 2 stood out with its impressive pre-baked lighting, delivering exceptional performance on PC. Beyond that, the game looked stunning and was even featured in our Top 10 Best PC Graphics of 2023 list.

The game ran smoothly without any mouse issues and includes clear on-screen keyboard and mouse indicators. I didn’t encounter any crashes either. For those curious, there are some occasional traversal stutters, but they were infrequent. Figure 1 shows Dead Island 2.

Oddly, the game never received official support for NVIDIA DLSS. While it does support AMD FSR, many would agree that DLSS generally delivers better results. Fortunately, there’s a free mod available that replaces FSR with DLSS—something that should make a lot of you happy. Be sure to grab it from this link.

From what I’ve gathered, Dead Island 2 was a commercial success. It sold one million copies within its first three days, and by May 2023, Deep Silver confirmed sales had surpassed two million [1]. Hopefully, this strong performance leads to a third installment in the series. However, as of now, Deep Silver hasn’t officially announced Dead Island 3.
