Adani Group CFO Jugeshinder Singh stated that the Google project could involve up to $5 billion in investment for Adani Connex, a joint venture between Adani Enterprises (ADEL.NS) and private data center operator EdgeConneX. “It’s not just Google; many other partners are interested in collaborating with us, especially as data center capacity reaches gigawatt levels and beyond,” Singh told reporters on Friday. “Google plans to invest around $85 billion this year to expand data centre capacity, as tech firms ramp up infrastructure to meet surging AI demand. Indian billionaires Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani have also announced investments in data centres. The new campus in Visakhapatnam will initially have a power capacity of 1 gigawatt.”

The Context: AI-Driven Infrastructure Boom

AI adoption is skyrocketing worldwide, driving huge demand for powerful computing infrastructure. Companies like Google are rapidly expanding data centres to support AI services such as machine learning, cloud computing, and generative AI applications.

Google’s Major Investment

Google has committed around $85 billion this year to build new data centre capacity globally. This move highlights how tech giants are preparing for an era dominated by AI workloads.

India Enters the Picture

Indian business magnates Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani are joining the race, planning massive investments to build and operate local data centres. India’s growing tech ecosystem and AI market make it a strategic hotspot.

Adani Group, in partnership with private data centre operators, is looking at investing up to $5 billion in Google’s upcoming data centre in Visakhapatnam. This aligns with their broader strategy to become a leader in India’s AI and cloud infrastructure space.

The Visakhapatnam campus will initially have a 1-gigawatt power capacity, enough to support thousands of servers. This investment promises to create jobs, strengthen India’s digital infrastructure, and position the country as a key player in the global AI ecosystem.
