Sources say the company is focusing on AI-driven engineering and manufacturing across sectors like computing, aerospace, and automotive. Project Prometheus has already raised $6.2 billion and recruited over 100 employees from Meta, OpenAI, and DeepMind, with many founders bringing experience from Microsoft, DeepMind, and Nvidia in AI and robotics research. While specific projects and the company’s location remain under wraps, Bezos is sharing leadership with physicist Vik Bajaj, a former collaborator on Google X. Bajaj has contributed to high-profile “moonshot” projects such as Waymo robotaxis, Wing drone delivery, Taara light-beamed internet, and exoskeleton-assisted technology.

Further hints about Project Prometheus’ ambitions have emerged. Last year, Bezos participated in a $400 million funding round for Physical Intelligence, a San Francisco-based startup leveraging AI to enhance robots’ abilities—from making espresso without spilling to assembling boxes.

According to Metz, Project Prometheus may also focus on enabling robots to autonomously conduct scientific experiments at scale. While some speculate this work could one day support Bezos’ space initiatives, the immediate applications appear more likely to involve augmenting humanoid robots for workplace tasks—or even building them.

Bezos Returns to CEO Role

After stepping down as Amazon CEO in 2021, Jeff Bezos is back in a leadership role, now co-heading Project Prometheus. The startup positions itself at the cutting edge of “AI for the physical economy,” signaling Bezos’ renewed focus on technological innovation beyond e-commerce and space exploration.

Mission and Focus of Project Prometheus

The company aims to integrate AI into engineering and manufacturing across multiple industries, including computing, aerospace, and automotive. Its vision is to create AI systems that can optimize real-world physical processes, bridging the gap between digital intelligence and tangible production.

Talent and Funding

Project Prometheus has raised $6.2 billion and recruited over 100 experts from Meta, OpenAI, DeepMind, Microsoft, Nvidia, and other tech leaders. This mix of AI and robotics talent signals the company’s ambition to make substantial advances in physical automation and intelligent manufacturing.

Potential Applications

The startup is rumored to focus on enabling robots to autonomously perform scientific experiments and complex tasks, while also enhancing humanoid robots for workplace environments. Bezos’ prior investment in Physical Intelligence hints at a broader goal of creating highly capable, dexterous AI-powered robots.

Leadership and Future Outlook

Bezos shares CEO duties with physicist Vik Bajaj, known for his work on Google X moonshot projects like Waymo, Wing drones, and exoskeletons. With such leadership and resources, Project Prometheus could eventually influence robotics, AI-driven manufacturing, and potentially even space-related endeavors.
