A leading Chinese developer of quadrupedal robotics has introduced a groundbreaking one-touch navigation feature in its robotic dog, marking a major leap in user-friendly robotics technology.This innovation enhances intelligent control by simplifying user interaction and improving autonomous movement, making the four-legged robot dog better suited for real-world challenges.
The company, based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, previously made waves with the debut of its advanced robot dog, Lynx. This dynamic machine can glide over ice, plow through deep snow, and execute impressive leaps and flips [1]. In a recent video, the firm showcased its latest breakthrough—an advanced real-time perception feature that allows the robotic dog to navigate unfamiliar terrains without prior mapping. This upgrade boosts the robot’s agility and spatial awareness, enabling it to adapt to dynamic and unstructured environments with ease.

A Closer Look at the Upgrade
The new navigation feature includes two specialized modes for different environments:
- Map-Based Point Navigation: Ideal for open terrains requiring broader spatial awareness.
- Video-Based Point Navigation: Designed for navigating confined or cluttered spaces with greater precision.
Operators can simply select a point within the video feed, and the robotic dog will autonomously move to the designated location.Figure 1 shows DEEP Robotics' dog.
“Chinese technology, particularly in smart maintenance and automation, is leading the global market,” says Hank Cheng, senior sales manager at Deep Robotics [2]. “This gives us a competitive edge in the pursuit of advanced solutions.”According to the company, the robotic dog can autonomously plan its path, avoid obstacles intelligently, and significantly improve traversal efficiency—all with just a simple tap on a tablet or selection in the video feed.
This technological advancement is set to greatly enhance the robot’s overall performance and operational efficiency, particularly in high-risk scenarios such as fire reconnaissance and emergency rescue missions. In these critical situations, speed, precision, and autonomous decision-making are crucial, making this innovation a game-changer in the field of robotics.
