Multi-cloud networking software

Multi-cloud networking software (MCNS) addresses the challenges related to connecting networks and applications across multiple public cloud environments. MCNS products aim to ensure consistent networking governance, policy, security, and visibility across multiple cloud environments via a single point of management.

MCNS is more than just a tool that connects a network to multiple discrete clouds. "Multi-cloud networking provides automated, policy-based networking that offers connectivity and network services for distributed workloads in and across multiple clouds," says Brad Casemore, vice president of research, datacenter and multi-cloud networking, at technology research firm IDC.[1]

Benefits of multi-cloud networking software

  • Speed
  • Performance
  • Staffing Costs
  • Operational Efficiency

"Multi-cloud networking provides automated, policy-based networking that offers connectivity and network services for distributed workloads in and across multiple clouds," explains Casemore.[2]

MCNS enables the design, deployment and operation of a network in multiple public cloud environments. MCNS products enable consistent networking policy, network security, governance and network visibility across multiple cloud environments via a single point of management.

Enterprises deploy multi cloud networking software to address shortcomings in public cloud environments, including a lack of advanced features, and/or consistent management at scale. Despite being called “multi cloud” networking software, enterprises can (and do) deploy it in single cloud environments.[3]
