How To Spot An AI By Asking One Simple Question

ChatGPT and other AI systems have emerged as hugely useful assistants. Various businesses have already incorporated the technology to help their employees, such as assisting lawyers draft contracts, customer service agents deal with queries and to support programmers developing code.

But there is increasing concern that the same technology can be put to malicious use. For example, chatbots capable of realistic human responses could perform new kinds of denial service attacks, such tying up all the customer service agents at a business or all the emergency service operators at a 911 call center.

That represents a considerable threat. What’s needed, of course, is a fast and reliable way to distinguish between GPT-enabled bots and real humans.[1]

Figure 1. shows Modern products often have a large amount of user research data from different sources: user research interviews, intercom conversations, customer e-mails, surveys, customer reviews on various platforms, etc.

Making sense of all that data is a challenging task. A traditional way to do that is to maintain a neatly organized database with various corresponding tags.

But what if we can have our personal AI chatbot that can answer any question about our user research data?>

By querying a large amount of historic user research data, the chatbot can provide insights and recommendations for a new project, product, or marketing campaign.

Well, now it’s possible with just a few lines of code. You can do that even without a technical background. In this article, I’m going to explain how to do that step-by-step.[2]

Identifying an AI with a single question can be challenging since AI systems, including language models like me, are designed to simulate human-like conversations. However, there are a few strategies you can employ to increase the likelihood of identifying an AI. Keep in mind that these methods are not foolproof and may not work in all cases.

  • Ask about subjective experiences
  • Complex and nuanced questions
  • Pop culture and current events
  • Ambiguous or contradictory questions
  • Directly inquire if it’s an AI

Remember that AI technology is continually advancing, and developers are actively working to improve the capabilities of AI systems. Therefore, the effectiveness of these strategies may diminish over time as AI becomes more sophisticated in mimicking human conversation.
