League of Legends has introduced another major quality-of-life update aimed at improving accessibility, especially for newer players. Riot Games has been steadily refining the MOBA ahead of the upcoming “League Next” overhaul planned for next year.

The latest addition, introduced in Patch 26.7, is a new setting called “Learn Spell On Cast,” designed to streamline gameplay and make learning abilities more intuitive.

With this feature enabled, players can press the key for an ability their character hasn’t yet learned to instantly acquire it. Figure 1 shows League of Legends.

Previously, learning a new ability required manually moving the mouse to the bottom of the screen and clicking the ability’s arrow, or holding Ctrl while pressing the corresponding key to level it up.

Previously, using Ctrl plus the ability key was considered the most efficient method, allowing players to stay in full control and quickly learn or upgrade moves during intense team fights.

With the new setting, Riot has simplified this process for newer or less mechanically skilled players, eliminating the need to awkwardly hold down Ctrl to level abilities.

League of Legends Introduces New “Learn Spell On Cast” Feature

The new “Learn Spell On Cast” feature offers strategic advantages by allowing players to delay leveling abilities until the optimal moment [1]. During the laning phase, players can wait to determine whether they need an extra damage spell or an escape tool at level two, then cast the desired ability instinctively. Note that the ability won’t activate on the very first press if it’s unlearned.

The feature can also be used to upgrade existing abilities, so spamming skills during a fight and leveling up may unintentionally put extra points into an ability. This is particularly important to watch for at the start of ARAM matches, where players begin with three skill points.

Additionally, Riot Games has announced a more controversial update: voice chat is coming to League of Legends. Players are encouraged to discuss the new setting and share opinions on the Insider Gaming Discord.
