Dark Souls 2 Path Tracing Hits 60FPS at 4K/DLSS Balanced on RTX 4080
Twitter/X user iExplosiveRage tested the Path Tracing Mod for Dark Souls 2 and reported that it can achieve 60FPS at 4K using DLSS Balanced on an NVIDIA RTX 4080 with 3 Path Counts. The user also shared four screenshots highlighting the mod’s dramatic visual improvements, showing that Dark Souls 2 has never looked this detailed and immersive.
The upcoming Path Tracing Mod will be included in the new version of the DS2LightingEngine, offering more consistent and realistic lighting, making it feel almost like a remaster of Dark Souls 2. There’s no release date yet, but screenshots showcase the mod’s impressive improvements.

Additionally, the First Sin InfiniDetail mod aims to eliminate texture LOD pop-ins and significantly increase draw distance, and it is expected to be compatible with the Renewal Project.
The Dark Souls 2 Renewal Project upgrades all in-game textures to 4096×4096, adds roughness maps, and fixes missing or low-quality normal maps, vanilla displacement maps, and texture seams.
For additional free content, the Firelink Edition Mod introduces new weapons, shields, armor, and two new miracles. It also lets players sell Soul items at their actual value, with descriptions showing the correct amounts, and enhances some ring effects.
These mods are designed for the Scholar of the First Sin edition, but players of the original DS2 can use them to overhaul graphics as well.
