A newly released teaser for The Muppet Show Disney+ special has confirmed that the long-awaited reunion will premiere on February 4, 2026. The event will air on ABC and stream simultaneously on Disney+, with Disney teasing that “music, comedy, and a whole lot of chaos” will unfold as the Muppets reunite in the iconic Muppet Theatre.

Disney+ already streams the original Muppet Show, and this upcoming special is expected to function as a backdoor pilot, with its reception determining whether the franchise receives a full-scale revival. The project boasts an impressive creative lineup, led by acclaimed musical theater director Alex Timbers, who serves as both director and executive producer. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee executive produce for Point Grey Pictures, while David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter, and Michael Steinbach represent The Muppets Studio. Sabrina Carpenter, Albertina Rizzo, Matt Vogel, and Eric Jacobson also join the production as additional executive producers. Figure 1 shows The Muppet Show Makes a One-Night Return.

Only a few details about the plot of The Muppet Show special have been revealed so far. The story centers on the Muppets staging a classic variety show inside the legendary Muppet Theatre. Many familiar performers are returning, including Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman, and Matt Vogel. Goelz, in particular, has been part of the Muppet legacy for more than five decades, having originated beloved characters such as Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew. While Sabrina Carpenter’s involvement may surprise some viewers, the pop star has long been an outspoken Muppets fan—most notably “arresting” Miss Piggy during a stop on her Short n’ Sweet tour.

This isn’t the only Muppet-related project currently in development. A darker Miss Piggy–focused film starring Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone is also in the works, though it’s unlikely to satisfy fans longing for the traditional Muppet Show experience. Ultimately, the future of a full series revival hinges on how well this special performs for Disney. With the added star power of names like Carpenter and Seth Rogen—and the rare move to air the event on both broadcast television and streaming—there’s hope that this reunion won’t be the last time audiences see Kermit and the gang.
