Let It Die: Inferno, the sequel to 2016's quirky hack-and-slash game Let It Die, is set to launch on Dec. 3. The game introduces a new global crisis—a massive, mysterious pit called the Hell Gate—along with a fresh source of SPLithium and a powerful new artifact, the Eye of the Reaper. While fans have eagerly followed the surprise launch announcement, one detail hasn’t gone unnoticed: the game incorporates generative AI (via Eurogamer).

According to the AI disclosure on Let It Die: Inferno’s Steam page, “AI-generated content has been used and then edited by our team for certain parts of the in-game voices, music, and graphics.” Steam now requires developers to disclose any use of generative AI in games. The Steam listing specifies that AI was applied to “some parts” of the game’s background signboards, Records images, and InfoCast videos, as well as portions of the voice acting and musical score. Exactly how much content is AI-generated remains unclear, and Supertrick Games has not issued a formal statement addressing fan concerns. Some original Let It Die players have already voiced their reluctance to try the game due to its AI usage, with one joking on Reddit, “Let It Die then.”

This comes after SAG-AFTRA’s video game voice actors spent nearly a year on strike to secure AI protections, which now exist—but studios like Supertrick Games are still free to incorporate AI into their games. Notably, the 2016 original was free-to-play and did not use AI; it currently holds a “mostly positive” Steam user rating.

Emergence of AI in the Game

The sequel incorporates generative AI into various parts of the game. According to the Steam page disclosure, AI was used and then refined by the development team to create voices, music, and graphics.

Scope of AI-Generated Content

Specific areas affected include background signboards, Records images, InfoCast videos, voice acting, and musical scores. However, the exact extent of AI usage remains unspecified, leaving some uncertainty for players.

Community Reaction

Fans of the original game are divided. Some are excited to see the sequel, while others express concern or skepticism due to the AI-generated content, with a few even jokingly refusing to play.

This release comes after SAG-AFTRA secured protections for voice actors against AI usage, highlighting the ongoing tension between creative labor and AI implementation in gaming. The original Let It Die had no AI content and maintains a “mostly positive” rating on Steam.
