This announcement took place approximately two months after the initial public unveiling of Ernie Bot, which garnered a mixed reception from users and experts alike. [1]

On March 16, Baidu's CEO, Robin Li, officially launched Ernie Bot, which is considered China's closest counterpart to the US-developed ChatGPT. During a livestreamed presentation, Li provided journalists with an insightful walkthrough, showcasing a series of pre-recorded demos that highlighted the diverse capabilities of this Chinese chatbot. This launch event aimed to demonstrate the impressive features and functionalities of Ernie Bot, solidifying its position as a significant advancement in the field of conversational AI within China. Recently, a Baidu spokesperson shared images in a media-facing group on WeChat, China's popular messaging service, showcasing the expanded skill set of the Chinese chatbot, Ernie Bot. These images revealed that the chatbot has evolved since its initial launch nearly two weeks ago, demonstrating a broader range of capabilities. [1]

Following its launch, both Ernie Bot and other products utilizing Baidu's generative AI large-language model have been in a trial phase. Baidu has selectively invited a limited number of companies and users to participate in testing these products and gather valuable feedback.
