Elden Ring's latest DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, has been a substantial expansion that's revitalized player interest akin to the game's peak popularity in 2022. It introduces a memorable boss encounter featuring a dancing lion, which turns out to be two individuals in a suit, showcasing the DLC's high level of polish and quality. However, true to From Software’s reputation, the new content is notably challenging. The developer recently released a patch aimed at easing some of the difficulty, particularly focusing on adjustments to the new Shadow Realm Blessings mechanics. These tweaks enhance attack capabilities and damage mitigation within the DLC, though they don't affect the base game.

Figure 1 shows even from software acknowledges that Elden ring's DLC was excessively challenging. Initially, Scadutree Fragments were expected to provide a five percent boost to player stats, with Revered Spirit Ashes offering similar benefits to companions. The patch increases these bonuses early on in the DLC, aimed at smoothing out the difficulty curve for new players. For existing players who have already persevered through the DLC's initial challenges, these adjustments may not be immediately noticeable. Additionally, the update for PC users addresses a bug related to raytracing activation when loading specific save data.[1]

The decision to patch the DLC follows player feedback, including review bombing on platforms like Steam, as reported by Kotaku. Fortunately, this feedback primarily cantered on gameplay difficulty rather than unrelated controversies.
