Over five years after its release, Control receives a surprise update, allowing all players to access the Hideo Kojima mission
Over five years since its launch, Control has received a surprise patch that finally allows PC players to experience Dr. Yoshimi Tokui’s Guided Imagery Experience — a side mission featuring Hideo Kojima as the titular doctor. Previously, this mission was exclusive to the PlayStation 4 version of the game, unless players resorted to some technical workarounds to access it. Now, thanks to the latest update, PC players can officially enjoy the mission without any hacks.

that’s no longer an issue, as today's patch finally makes the mission — and the good doctor — accessible to everyone. Along with it, the update also unlocks the Astral Dive Suit, Tactical Response Gear, and Urban Response Gear, which were previously exclusive to players who had preordered the game [1]. If you’d rather skip the hassle of reinstalling and replaying the game, you can always watch clips of Dr. Yoshimi Tokui’s Guided Imagery Experience on YouTube — though it won’t quite match the experience of playing it firsthand.
Along with unlocking previously exclusive content, the new patch introduces several graphical improvements, including native HDR support, an Ultra ray tracing preset, ultrawide monitor support up to 48:9, texture streaming fixes, and multiple DLSS updates. Remedy has also addressed "several bug and crash fixes" as part of the update.
Interestingly, fans on Reddit and ResetEra have noted that this patch seems to incorporate many features from the HDR Ultrawide DLSS RT Patch mod released in early 2023 [2]. This update could potentially conflict with that mod or make it entirely obsolete, so players using it may want to disable it before installing the new patch.
According to Remedy’s statement on Bluesky, the patch is already live on Steam, though it hasn't appeared on the Steam update hub yet. It is expected to roll out on GOG and Epic "shortly." Remedy also confirmed that the same update will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Control, but with a small team working on it, they plan to space out the releases to address any potential issues that may arise.
