Marvel Rivals' Next Patch Will Finally Do Justice to My Beloved Captain America
Yeah, that jump change is huge for Cap’s survivability! Before, backing out of a bad dive always felt like a gamble—either you risk getting shredded while retreating with a fragile shield or you leap and pray you don’t get beamed mid-air. Being able to keep his shield up while leaping makes him way more reliable in fights.

Figure 1. Marvel Rivals Patch Brings Much-Needed Buffs to Captain America.
Yeah, that buff to Vibranium Energy Saw is sneaky strong. Faster projectiles and ricochets mean it’s way more reliable for securing kills, especially against those slippery supports and flankers. No more watching your shield bounce just a little too slow while your target escapes! Figure 1 shows Marvel Rivals Patch Brings Much-Needed Buffs to Captain America.
And that last change—finally! No more awkward moments where Cap just stands there like, “Ah yes, hit me, I insist.” Now he can actually keep up the pressure while his shield does its thing. It’s a small tweak, but it makes him feel way more like the relentless brawler he should be.
It looks like Marvel Rivals is finally giving Captain America the buffs he deserves in the upcoming February 21 patch! Here’s what’s changing:
- Living Legend: Cap will now be able to shield himself mid-leap.
- Vibranium Energy Saw: Projectile speed increased from 60m/s to 80m/s, with ricochet speed boosted from 100m/s to 150m/s when supercharged.
- Freedom Charge (Ultimate): Energy cost reduced from 3100 to 2800.
Sentinel Strike Adjustments:
- Now separate from melee attacks.
- Cap can melee while his shield is thrown or during Team-Up Ability Charged Aegis to activate the first two hits of Sentinel Strike.
- Airborne melee attacks will no longer trigger Super-Soldier Slam.
Some interesting balance shifts across the board
- Doctor Strange losing 50 HP makes sense—he’s slippery enough with all his teleporting, so a slight nerf to his survivability keeps him from being too hard to pin down.
- Groot’s wall placement buff sounds like a solid quality-of-life change. More flexibility means better zoning and protection for teammates.
- Thor getting shorter cooldowns is huge if it affects his main abilities—more lightning spam means more pressure in fights.
- Venom’s ult being cheaper could make him an even scarier frontline disruptor. That ult already swings fights, so getting it more often? Yikes.
- Magneto's left-click buff in exchange for a weaker barrier feels like a fair trade. His raw damage potential is insane, so making his defense a bit less tanky forces more calculated plays.
Yeah, this patch is clearly trying to get more people to want to play Cap rather than just making him stronger. His winrate is solid, so it's not about him being weak—he just hasn’t been an appealing pick compared to other Vanguards. And honestly, I get it. Before these buffs, his playstyle could feel a little stiff, and in a game full of flashier tanks, Cap’s reliability alone wasn’t enough to draw players in.
But these quality-of-life tweaks should make him feel smoother and more rewarding to play, which is exactly what he needed. And if his pick rate jumps after this patch, it’ll prove that the changes worked.
I’m curious about those Storm tweaks and Cloak and Dagger ult nerfs though Storm already feels strong, so are they dialing her back a bit? And Widow… yeah, unless they fundamentally change something about her, I doubt minor buffs will suddenly make her viable.
