Virtual Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) is a framework for virtualizing the functions required to converge voice and data on 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) networks. vEPC moves the core network's individual components that traditionally run on dedicated hardware to software that operates on low-cost commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) servers. [1]

Figure 1. Benefits of vEPC (virtual Evolved Packet Core)

Figure 1 shows by virtualizing Evolved Packet Core (EPC) functionality, mobile providers can theoretically customize networks to meet the unique requirements of individual customers, mixing and matching individual network components as needed. vEPC can also lower CAPEX and OPEX by reducing reliance on specialized hardware, while speeding up service delivery, and allowing for on-demand scalability and responding to real-time network conditions and user needs.

The vEPC framework shall form a key component of upcoming 5G network architectures being planned or implemented worldwide, and supporting associated platforms such as MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing). [2]

Key Benefits

  • Fully virtualizable on VMware, OpenStack, K8S and Docker containers
  • Support the needs of telecommunications and private network users
  • A complete and integrated vEPC platform enables MME, HSS, SGW, PGW in a box
  • High Scalable Capacity Support Redundancy Deployment
  • High-speed Data Forwarding Processing
  • Carrier-grade guarantee Reliable and easy to deploy
  • Interop with a number of eNodeB systems from third party vendors
  • Support Centralized and Distributed (CUPS) architecture [3]
  • If the mouse is alive, the researchers could study it for longer periods of time. Using this new process, the researchers performed two experiments on the mouse in which they were able to see in real time over a month what the neurons — or nerve cells — were doing as the mouse was forming and storing memories.

However, strategic partnerships, collaborations, and agreements are some of the other growth strategies adopted by the leading players in this market. The majority of partnerships and collaborations aim to broaden product portfolios, advance the technological capabilities of existing products, and develop capabilities to cater to the changing demands of users.
