Kodak has confirmed a cybersecurity incident after the notorious ShinyHunters cybercrime group claimed to have stolen millions of records containing customer and corporate information from the company's systems.

The commercial printing and imaging technology company was listed on the group's leak site on June 15, with ShinyHunters alleging it had obtained more than 2.2 million records. The threat actors warned that the data would be published unless a ransom demand was met.

In response to inquiries regarding the claims, Kodak acknowledged that an unauthorized third party had gained access to a limited portion of company data. The company stated that it launched an investigation immediately upon discovering the incident and has engaged external cybersecurity specialists to assist with the response effort.

According to Kodak, the breach has been contained and does not pose an ongoing risk to the company's operational systems. While the investigation remains active, company officials said they believe the incident was limited in scope and that business operations have not been affected. “Kodak recently discovered that an unauthorized third party illegally gained access to a limited amount of company data,” a company spokesperson said, adding that there is currently no indication of a threat to the organization's systems or day-to-day operations.

The company also confirmed that law enforcement agencies have been notified and are working alongside investigators to determine the full extent of the intrusion [1]. Additional details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.

The incident comes amid a surge in activity from ShinyHunters, a cybercriminal group known for large-scale data theft and extortion campaigns. Over the past year, the group has been linked to attacks against numerous organizations, often targeting widely used enterprise software platforms to gain unauthorized access to sensitive information.

Most recently, ShinyHunters was reportedly connected to a campaign that exploited a zero-day vulnerability in Oracle PeopleSoft, impacting dozens of organizations and highlighting the growing risks posed by sophisticated cybercriminal operations.

As cybersecurity experts continue to analyze the Kodak breach, the incident serves as another reminder of the persistent threat facing organizations that manage large volumes of customer and business data.
