Global Caribbean Network (GCN) has enhanced its subsea cable network by deploying the Ekinops360 WDM platform featuring FlexRate technology.

Ekinops (Euronext Paris: FR0011466069, EKI), a leading optical transport and network access specialist, announced that Global Caribbean Network (GCN), a wholesale capacity provider to Caribbean telcos, has upgraded its subsea cable network using the Ekinops360 WDM platform with FlexRate™ technology. Figure 1 shows Ekinops Upgrades GCN Subsea Cable.

GCN operates a cable system in the Guadeloupe region, covering critical routes not served by other cables. Facing long spans with challenging optical demands, GCN required a solution supporting 10G to 100G services over distances exceeding 350 km. By deploying Ekinops’ 400FRS04-SF modules, ROADMs, and low-noise amplifiers, GCN now delivers the high bandwidth local service providers need to offer robust internet services to communities across the region.

GCN developed its original cable system under a public service delegation contract with the regional council of Guadeloupe, which requires the cable’s control to revert to the regional government after a set period. To meet this condition, GCN needed to modernize its infrastructure with a future-proof network supporting higher capacities [1]. After evaluating options—including purpose-built submarine systems—GCN chose the Ekinops360 platform, confident in Ekinops’ ability to deliver the required solution, services, and support within a tight timeframe.
