Conversational AI is taking off

Conversational AI (Artificial Intelligence) refers to technologies that support humanlike interactions between computers and humans. Conversational AI technology doesn’t need a script, unlike traditional chatbots or conversational bots, where the software is told what to say in response to specific keywords. Instead of taking instructions, conversational AI technologies can teach themselves progressively through reinforcement or machine learning.[1]

And to interact like a human, conversational AI uses large amounts of data, machine learning, deep learning, and NLP (Natural Language Processing).

Figure1 shows Conversational AI can be found in chatbots, voice assistants, and a broad spectrum of interactive voice-controlled systems—from phones to vehicles.[2]At the heart of conversational AI is machine learning: algorithms that automatically improve as they acquire data.

Use Cases for Conversational AI:

Asking your kitchen smart speaker to read a recipe aloud while you run to the pantry, select ingredients from the shelves and begin preparing dinner isn’t a job killer, it’s efficient and easy. Running low on pasta sauce? Just say the command to add it your grocery list or even to place the order for another few bottles. So, whether we’re announcing commands to our lights, appliances and vehicles, ordering take out and spinning up playlists from our intelligent speakers or getting driving directions and updating friends with the help of our virtual assistants, Conversational AI isn’t scary at all, it’s cool and smart.

The industries where we are now launching Conversational AI projects are just as diverse and include hotels, healthcare providers, insurance companies, soft drink and snack food producers, retail stores, pharmaceutical companies and wealth management services. [3]

Predictions for 2022:

While the pandemic may have brought about an increase in tactical chatbots to solve immediate needs, our experts see enterprises moving to more strategic investments in 2022. Predicts more and more enterprises will move to strategic implementations. Also sees enterprises seeing the benefits of conversational AI and refocusing from pandemic related use cases to future roadmaps.[4]
