Lasso is a small machine, having capabilities of industrial recycling machines and it will fit anywhere in home.

Figure 1 shows that the recycling is something many of us take for granted, assuming what we throw in the bin ends up getting recycled properly. But current curb side systems aren't particularly effective, especially if the material isn't clean or a plastic isn't actually recyclable, so much of what goes into your blue bin can end up in landfill.

Enter the Lasso, a home recycling appliance that lets you bypass the curb side system almost completely.

Lasso Loop announced a prototype of its recycling appliance, also called Lasso, at CES 2022. CNET had the first chance to see a working proof of concept at a maker space in San Mateo, California.[1]

The Lasso is a giant, grey field. At over 5 ft tall, it is at present too massive to slot in your kitchen without some main renovations, however Lasso Loop’s chief expertise officer Phil Sanders tells me the ultimate model might be smaller. Assume countertop peak, with a dishwasher on high.

The Lasso accepts and types seven various kinds of supplies: PET and HDPE plastic; brown, inexperienced and clear glass; aluminium and metal cans. As soon as you set a merchandise into the machine, sensors and cameras verify if it might truly be recycled.[2]

The Lasso Loop says the Lasso will use the same amount of energy as a mid-range washer, and because it consolidates so much of the recycling process in one location, it can end up having a much lower carbon footprint.

Pavement systems often need items to be sorted, then shipped to different locations for further processing and recycling.

Like any new device, this technology is not cheap. Pre-orders start at $3,500, and Lasso will first be available as part of a pilot program in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2023, with broader availability in 2024.

Offsetting the initial cost with bottle discounts and even revenue share from waste collection is something Lasso Loop is considering on the right track.[3]
