EV routing function on Apple Maps and CarPlay is now obtainable for customers of the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Apple recently released iOS 15.4 for iPhone users. The update brought a host of new features to the Apple devices. The list includes the ability to unlock iPhones while wearing face masks and a new gender-neutral Siri voice among other things. In addition to this, Apple has also released the much-awaited EV routing feature on Apple Maps.

Now, with iOS 15.4, Apple has finally rolled out support for its EV routing feature on to Apple Maps. This feature essentially creates a route to a users’ preferred destination that includes an EV charging station along the way.[1]

The new EV-friendly feature on Ford Mach-E is activated via the Apple CarPlay, which is the infotainment software of the iPhone maker.

As such, its users must connect their iPhone to the infotainment system of their Mustang Mach-E to enable EV routing.

After connecting the iPhone to the infotainment system of the Mach-E, set a destination on the sync screen interface of Apple Maps on CarPlay.

Then, a popup message, saying that reads: "Get EV routes for your Mustang Mach-E" should show up. Upon seeing it, click the "OK" button to have it activated.[2]

According to the Ford website, EV Routing is currently available for 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E units and 2021 units with the following SYNC software versions:

For Ford Mach-E vehicles with other software versions, Ford said that EV routing will be available later this year. Ford also said that EV routing will also be available for its other vehicles, specifically F-150 Lightning and E-Transit cars.

Aside from Ford Mach-E vehicles, EV routing is also available for some BMW vehicles. If you drive a BMW unit, check with your auto dealer on how to enable it in your cars.
