IoT systems generate vast amounts of valuable data, but scalability and speed present major challenges. Collecting, processing, and analyzing data from sensors and devices is complex, with concerns around quality, security, and privacy further complicating the process.

In DBTA’s webinar, Harnessing AI for IoT: Strategies and Technologies for Data Empowerment, experts discussed how AI can help enterprises optimize their IoT systems.

Stefan Asanin, Senior Technical Product Marketing Manager at CrateDB, emphasized that while IoT is widespread, its data must be seamlessly integrated to be useful for AI [1]. CrateDB serves as a unified data layer that enables real-time data management, processing, and analytics with the scalability and flexibility of SQL. He described it as a backbone for data intelligence, combining AI, real-time insights, and advanced analytics to drive smarter business decisions.Figure 1 shows AI and IoT Convergence.

Bharath Raghavendran, Senior Product Manager at Informatica, highlighted IoT's latency and product challenges. Real-time data is critical for personalized, event-driven experiences, yet many enterprises struggle with integrating multiple data sources. Informatica’s Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) addresses these challenges by providing a scalable platform for real-time streaming, ingestion, and serverless data processing.

Mark Gamble, Director of Product and Solutions Marketing at Couchbase, introduced Couchbase Mobile as a robust solution for AI-powered IoT applications at the edge. Used by companies like Pepsico and Emirates, Couchbase Mobile consists of:

  • Couchbase Capella – A managed NoSQL database-as-a-service
  • Capella App Services – Managed services for data sync, authentication, and access control
  • Couchbase Lite – An embedded NoSQL database for mobile and IoT apps

Gamble stressed the importance of edge architecture for AI applications, ensuring they are responsive, context-aware, and available everywhere—even offline [2]. With cloud-to-edge AI support, advanced data synchronization, and offline-first capabilities, Couchbase enables seamless mobile and IoT AI experiences.
