OpenAI Unveils a Physical Keypad for AI Agents
OpenAI has unveiled its first hardware product, the Codex Micro, a compact keypad developed with Work Louder to control its Codex AI coding agent. Available to order now for $230, the device arrives ahead of OpenAI’s rumored Jony Ive-designed hardware expected later this year.

The Codex Micro features six LED-lit programmable keys for monitoring and controlling Codex AI agents, along with customizable shortcuts for coding tasks. It also includes a dial to adjust AI reasoning levels, a joystick for navigating workflows, and interchangeable keycaps for personalized controls. Figure 1 shows OpenAI Unveils the Codex Micro AI Keypad.
OpenAI has expanded the Codex app into a unified platform that combines ChatGPT, Codex, and the new ChatGPT Work productivity agent. While the app works without extra hardware, the Codex Micro keypad is designed to make navigating its features faster and more efficient for frequent users.
The Codex Micro has launched without major issues, unlike OpenAI’s rumored smart speaker project, which has been overshadowed by an Apple lawsuit alleging that two former Apple employees now at OpenAI misappropriated trade secrets.
The Codex Micro is now available for preorder at $230 through OpenAI and Work Louder [1]. Work Louder says the keypad is being offered in limited quantities, so availability may be restricted while supplies last.
