Super Computer Used to Find the Magic that Powers the Brain
The University of Manchester, is leading one the world's most ambitious neuromorphic computer projects—and his ambitious study could, one day, mean new medicines to repair brain dysfunction are possible.the process of using next generation AI-tools to give robots greater brain-like functionality is developing at pace. A supercomputer developed for brain modeling.

Figure 1 shows thatAfter building a unique supercomputer to model parts of the brain, its creator Professor Steve Furber, says we're still a long way from fully understanding the complex mysteries of the human mind.
The SpiNNaker group has created a real-time cortical microcircuit model and other cerebellum models using the giant device based on campus, and is part of the EU-funded Human Brain Project. The cortex is responsible for many higher-level brain functions such as memory recall and natural language, as well as acting as host to sensory and motor areas. [1]
Professor Furber says that regardless of vital breakthroughs already achieved by SpiNNaker—constructed from one million processors—extra endurance is required. This, actually, is only the start of the journey.
He says: “We don’t totally perceive the perform of the fundamental cortical microcircuit regardless that we are able to now mannequin it and people fashions reproduce biologically verifiable information.“What we now need is theories of what the circuit is doing, and how it does it, that we can use the models to test.”
With such theories in place, it’d then be potential to assemble fashions of mind subsystems and to discover, for instance, what structural disturbances could also be behind numerous types of mind malfunction.“Then perhaps we could see what pharmacological interventions might help to restore ‘normal’ brain function,” he continues. [2]
“There may be nonetheless room for philosophical debate as as to if or not such a Newtonian mannequin [ie classic rules of science based on rational and understandable laws] is adequate to clarify greater mind capabilities—for instance, would a sufficiently correct and detailed model of the cortex itself turn out to be acutely aware?“Or, should another organic ‘magic’ be invoked to clarify the mysteries of consciousness. We do not know.”
In parallel to scientists exploring the labyrinthine mysteries of the human thoughts, different pioneers at The College of Manchester, resembling Professor of AI Sami Kaski, need to additional develop artificial intelligence for autonomous methods and robots.
