US company Aventon has upgraded two of its most popular city e-bikes with improved batteries and new features – without a huge price hike.[1]

Figure 1 shows that the Aventon is one of the most popular ebike companies in the US, and its Pace cruiser bikes have long been the company’s best-selling rides.

Now the company is updating its Pace 350 and 500, both of which received major redesigns this week meant to make the bikes more comfortable and easier to use.

Aventon was known for affordable and attractive fixed-gear bikes before it pivoted into the electric bike market, and its latest models bring back some of that sleek DNA.[2]

Both new bikes have redesigned frames, with an integrated battery that locks into the downtube, but can be removed for easy charging.

There are also new head and tail lights (the latter of which is built directly into the bike's frame), and a new LCD ride computer on the handlebar.

This can be connected to Aventon's smartphone app, allowing you to customize your bike's settings, plot routes, and track your rides.

These are class two e-bikes, meaning they can be ridden without pedalling, and have a swift maximum speed of 20mph with the motor engaged. Aventon cites a typical range of 24 miles for the Pace 350 if you ride using the motor alone, and 30 miles of the Pace 500.[1]

The fact that the Pace 350 and 500 are getting the same treatment comes as no surprise. What is surprising is that the prices have remained pleasantly affordable.

$1,399 is more than fair for the high-quality Pace 350. And $1,699 to get the Pace 500 with hydraulic brakes, 28 mph speed, and integrated lighting.

Beautiful colour screen going to be a seriously hard pill for some of Aventon’s pricier competitors to swallow.

The one area that might have some riders balking is that the Pace line doesn’t come with suspension. But then again, these are commuter e-bikes designed for street use. If you’re in a decently smooth bike lane and are used to a typical street bike, you likely won’t miss suspension.

Especially the upright seating position of the Pace line of electric bikes, which can be further adjusted to that variable angle handlebar stem.

while something like the RadCity 5 Plus e-bike still gets to hold suspension over the Aventon Pace 350 and 500’s headtubes, these prices make these new next-gen Aventon e-bikes a seriously convincing buy.[3]
