Did you know that you can charge your iphone with the power of a plant? Forests can become the energy stations of the future. Now it is becoming possible, for example, Bioo is a clean-tech company capable of generating electricity from plant’s photosynthesis.[1]

The financing via crowd funding gave Arkyne Technologies the possibility to develop and test their green product at first. Integrated in a flowerpot the mechanism of Bioo Lite is principally working with any random plant, but you have to consider that different plants produce a different amount of power (cactuses for example are not recommended because they do not produce enough power).[2]

how its work

The process which is behind this genious invention isn’t as complicated as you may think: While the plant is converting CO² into O², water drips into the ground which trickles into an artificial membrane integrated in the flowerpot. Germs which were included to the membrane produce power out of the available oxygen and the water extracted from the plant. This power is transferred through a connected USB cable and can now charge the battery of your phone[2]
