Meta, Sify poised to develop 500 MW data Centre in Visakhapatnam
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is reportedly planning to collaborate with Sify Technologies to establish a 500-megawatt data centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, according to a source familiar with the development.
Sify is expected to invest around ₹15,266 crore to build the hyperscale facility in Paradesipalem village, approximately 25 km from Visakhapatnam city along the Kolkata–Srikakulam highway. The entire capacity of the centre will be leased to Meta.

As part of the collaboration, Meta will also land its major subsea cable project, ‘Waterworth’, at Sify’s cable landing station in the region. “Sify will develop the data centre infrastructure up to the rack level, and Meta will be the end user. Details on investments in racks and processing units are still being finalised,” the source added. Figure 1 shows develop 500 MW data centre.
Neither Meta nor Sify responded to requests for comment. This initiative represents the first large-scale data infrastructure leasing by the Menlo Park–headquartered tech giant in India, as it looks to leverage the world’s largest AI services market and advance its ‘Superintelligence’ ambitions.
The Waterworth cable system, spanning over 50,000 kilometres, is set to become the longest subsea cable globally, connecting the US, India, Brazil, and South Africa, and improving global bandwidth availability while reducing latency. For Sify, which plans to list publicly in India in 2026, the partnership is expected to be among its biggest customer commitments.
Sify and Google are the inaugural participants in Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious plan to build a 6 GW data centre ecosystem [1]. While Google will construct a 1 GW data centre cluster, the state has allocated 550 MW to Sify. Sify’s first 50 MW AI-focused data centre will be located in Madhurawada.
During the recent CII Partnership Summit, the Andhra Pradesh government signed an MoU with Reliance Industries to build a 1 GW data centre. Additional agreements were inked with Tillman Global Holdings (300 MW) and Anant Raj Cloud (117 MW), taking signed commitments to 3 GW.
Discussions are ongoing with Brookfield for a potential 3 GW data centre cluster, though no MoU has been finalised yet. Leveraging its extensive coastline, the state is rapidly becoming a key destination for global data centre deployment.
“Companies are increasingly considering the east coast for subsea cable landings due to easier access to Southeast Asian markets,” a senior state government official said.
