Scientists Many Ancient civilizations, including one that was destroyed by the Akkadian EmpireThe Old Kingdom OfEgyptThis Climate change and shifting allegiances are two reasons why this is happening. New research suggests that this may be due extinct pathogens. Archaeologists The The following are the Max Planck Institute For Evolutionary Anthropology Excavated In the remains of an old burial ground Crete, GreeceThe Name of the company Hagios Charalambos. There They Genetic evidence was found for two bacteria that were responsible for the emergence and spread of typhoid fever. [3]

Figure 1 shows the workforce, led by archaeologists Gunnar Neumann, selected the location for its cool and steady circumstances as DNA tends to get degraded in increased temperatures. They started by digging by the traditional bones and recovered DNA from the enamel of 32 people who had died between 2290 and 1909 BCE. [2]

In the genetic data, the team found common oral bacteria. In two of the individuals, they detected the presence of Y. pestis, while in the other two individuals, two lineages of Salmonella enterica bacterium, which causes typhoid fever, were found. The findings indicated that both of the pathogens existed during the Bronze Age Crete and were possibly transmissible at that time.

Though the transmission route of these pathogens is not clear to the researchers, they noted that the lineages of the S. enterica found did not have traits that are responsible for causing severe illnesses in humans. [1]

“While it is unlikely that Y. pestis or S. enterica were the sole culprits responsible for the societal changes observed in the Mediterranean at the end of the 3rd millennium BCE, we propose that, given the ancient DNA evidence presented here, infectious diseases should be considered as an additional contributing factor; possibly in an interplay with climate and migration.
