Ballie Is Finally Rolling Out

Samsung’s adorable home robot Ballie is officially launching in the US this summer! After being teased at CES 2025, Samsung has opened pre-registration, bringing the long-awaited personal assistant one step closer to reality—and maybe even into your heart. Figure 1 shows Introducing Ballie — Samsung’s Charming Home Robot.

A Robot with Personality—and Purpose

Ballie isn’t just cute. This two-wheeled, ball-shaped robot is designed to help around the house. It comes loaded with a speaker, microphone, and even a built-in projector, making it more interactive than ever. Think of it as a mobile smart display that can follow you room to room.

A Smart Home Sidekick

Ballie is fully integrated with Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem, meaning it can control lights, appliances, and other connected devices throughout your home. It’s like having a smart home hub that can actually move around and come to you when needed.

Powered by Generative AI

Here’s where Ballie really stands out: it’s now equipped with Google’s Gemini AI. That means it can understand natural language better, have more fluid conversations, and offer proactive help based on your habits. It’s not just smart—it’s learning to be helpful in your unique way.

Ballie vs. the Competition

Sure, Amazon had Astro—but Ballie brings something new to the table. Its AI edge, cute design, and mobile projection capabilities give it more personality and utility. If home robots are the future, Ballie might just be the first

Powered by Gemini and Samsung’s Own AI

Samsung isn’t just adding AI—it’s going all in. Ballie now runs on Google’s Gemini AI for advanced multimodal reasoning, combined with Samsung’s own generative AI large language models. That means Ballie can understand and respond to a mix of inputs: voice commands, camera visuals, and even environmental sensor data. It’s not just listening—it’s seeing, sensing, and thinking in real time.

A Home Robot That Actually Feels Smart

Compared to earlier attempts like Amazon’s Astro, Ballie now seems like a genuinely intelligent assistant. With generative AI from both Samsung and Google, Ballie’s responses can be natural, adaptive, and helpful. Whether it’s projecting your schedule on a wall, adjusting smart lights, or just rolling over to check in, Ballie could be the home robot we’ve actually been waiting for.

With Gemini AI integrated, Ballie can now do more than just assist—it can offer personalized lifestyle advice. According to Samsung, the robot can visually assess your outfit and suggest accessories or style improvements. It can also respond to prompts like “I’m tired” by pulling insights from trusted sources to offer fitness tips, adjust your smart home to improve your sleep environment, or even monitor your sleep patterns.

Over the years, several Verge staffers have witnessed Ballie demos firsthand. At CES 2025, The Verge’s Chris Welch observed Ballie projecting information onto a wall, recommending wine pairings for dinner, and enabling voice interaction. The demo also showcased interactive projected buttons that users could press with their feet—highlighting Ballie’s blend of intelligence and intuitive design.

Ballie’s BB-8-inspired design has consistently charmed audiences, but every demo so far has been tightly scripted, with no hands-on interaction allowed. And despite years of teasers, Samsung has yet to bring the robot to market—though that may finally be changing.

Meanwhile, the home robotics space is heating up. Apple is rumored to be developing its own home robot, Meta is reportedly working on a humanoid design, and Google continues its own robotic experiments. Even LG—Samsung’s closest competitor—unveiled its own Ballie-like concept last year.
