In the realm of security cameras, two primary night vision technologies are commonly used: infrared and colour. In this context, infrared night vision holds a distinct edge over colour night vision, which relies on bright white light. Notably, infrared LED lights offer a more extensive illumination range compared to their colour counterparts. This advantage aligns well with the preferences of security professionals who value subtle and inconspicuous camera setups. The imperceptible nature of infrared light significantly contributes to this discretion.

Rovaom, a startup focused on advanced night-vision technology, has introduced a night-vision camera that leverages a high-resolution colour sensor from Sony. This innovation allows users to capture high-quality colour footage during both day and night conditions. Equipped with a "professional starlight 1.0 night-vision lens," the camera offers 40x optical zoom along with 10x digital zoom, enhancing its ability to capture nighttime subjects. The camera features a seven-level IR illuminator for controlling image brightness, a 4.5-inch OLED display with a resolution of 480 x 960 pixels for framing shots, and an integrated microphone to accompany videos with sound.

The camera includes a media card slot supporting storage of up to 512 GB (64-GB TF card included), a USB-C port, and wireless connectivity. This wireless connection enables users to share captured footage through a smartphone app, facilitating instant sharing to social media platforms. The camera is also equipped with a 3,000-mAh battery that provides up to 4.5 hours of usage on a single charge.

According to Rovaom, this camera offers a departure from the blurry and monochrome imagery of traditional night-vision cameras, providing vivid and full-colour night videos with 4K clarity. Whether used by outdoor enthusiasts, wildlife observers, security professionals, or photographers, Rovaom aims to provide a captivating experience for nighttime adventures. Rovaom has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund production, with pledges starting at $299.[2] As with any crowdfunding campaign, potential backers should exercise caution. If the campaign proceeds as planned, global shipping from the production facility in China is anticipated to begin in November.
