Infineon Technologies has introduced the XENSIV 60 GHz automotive radar sensor (BGT60ATR24C) for in-cabin monitoring systems (ICMS) to detect micro-movements and vital signs of infants and animals that are left behind in vehicles and sound the alarm. In summers the rising temperatures can quickly cause temperatures inside parked cars to become as high as 70°C: A danger for animals and children left behind in the car. This compact and cost-effective chipset from Infineon also addresses applications such as front-end radar for gesture sensing, high-resolution frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radars for distance measurement, short-range sensing operations and hidden sensing applications in the radome. Figure 1 shows to resolve the above drawback, Infineon Applied sciences have introduced the launch of the XENSIV 60 GHz automotive radar sensor, an In-cabin radar system (ICMS) that’s able to detecting micro-movements in addition to very important indicators of left-behind infants and animals and sounding the alarm.

Based on the corporate, the ultra-compact BGT60ATR24C allows Four GHz ultra-wide bandwidth FMCW operation. For the information assortment and configuration of the sensors, a digital interface is used. To realize the bottom energy consumption, the facility mode optimization is used for the unbiased information accusation within the built-in state machine. [3]

The company also claims that the product can be used for additional functionality such as seat belt reminder that adds to the safety of the passenger in the car. The sensor is AEC-Q100/101 qualified which makes it suitable for automotive applications.
