Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV Assembles and Launch in India Soon

Hyundai will be locally assembling its upcoming Ioniq 5 EV in India taking the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route rather than the earlier plans of importing the car directly via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route. With this, you can expect an aggressive price tag. [1]

Figure 1 shows that The Ioniq 5 is set to mark the beginning of Hyundai’s BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) expansion plans in India. The Korean automaker will be introducing the Ioniq 5 in the second half of 2022. [2]

Hyundai is gearing up to launch the worldwide popular Ioniq 5 EV in the country. huge advantage for the Ioniq 5 as it will not only command a lower price tag but will also get ample time to reach huge production volume via the CKD route. It’s set to become the mainstream EV of the Hyundai Group in India.

While Hyundai’s sister concern, Kia, is just about to launch its maiden flagship EV in India, the EV6, Hyundai is also gearing up to launch the worldwide popular Ioniq 5 EV in the country. EV6 will be brought here via the CBU route and bookings are also currently open for it. [1]

The Ioniq 5 is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), an innovative system that was exclusively developed for next-generation battery electric vehicles.

Through the modularity ingrained by Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, the Ioniq 5 will feature an innovative interior and exterior design; while interiors feature eco-friendly materials at multiple touchpoints. [2]

Both the Ioniq 5 & EV6 are based on Hyundai's e-GMP platform. This modular platform helps use the base of the chassis as battery positioning as well. This leads to more space utilization as well as better efficiency. As major components are shared; both cars are similar mostly. The only differences are in terms of equipment lists and styling.

Hyundai will offer a 58kWh battery pack in India that produces 169 hp of peak power. This battery pack is one of the three options offered globally.

Hyundai also sells the Ioniq with a 72.6kWh (217/306 hp) battery pack. Recently, the company added a new bigger battery of 77.4kWh for more power and driving range, internationally. [3]
