Volkswagen Group will launch an all-electric pick-up and a rugged SUV in the United States under the Scout brand, for its North American market. While the vehicles will be designed, engineered, and manufactured in the U.S., a separate, independent company under the Scout moniker will be established in the country later this year. The first prototypes are to be unveiled next year, and production is scheduled to start in 2026. The electrified Volkswagen Scout brand will be built upon a new platform concept that brings new pickup and RUV credibility beyond the existing Volkswagen Group portfolio. [1]

Figure 1 shows the first prototypes of the new Volkswagen Scout electric pick-up and electric SUV are to be unveiled next year, and production is scheduled to start in 2026. [2]

Herbert Diess, CEO, Volkswagen AG said, “After Volkswagen's successful turnaround in the U.S., we are now taking the opportunity to further strengthen our position in one of the most significant growth markets for EVs. Electrification provides a historic opportunity to enter the highly attractive pick-up and R-SUV segment as a Group, underscoring our ambition to become a relevant player in the U.S. market.” [2]

The electrified Volkswagen Scout brand will be built on a new platform concept that brings new pickup and RUV reliability beyond the existing Volkswagen Group portfolio.

Volkswagen generates approximately 10 percent of its total sales from the United States in the R-SUV and pick-up segments and is looking to expand its presence in one of the most important global growth markets. The new company will also play a key role in this transformation as it aligns with the conglomerate’s model for smaller units that operate agilely and have access to technology platforms to leverage synergies. Made famous by truck and tractor manufacturer International Harvester in the 1960s and 1970s, the Scout moniker would return to the American market after a long hiatus. [3]
